21·8 days agoWhen I was a kid, I didn’t understand a lot. Everytime I asked a question, the adults in the room would say “you’ll understand when you’re older”.
Ok. It’s been like 38 years…I still don’t understand.
What exactly is Dee Snyder supposed to be with this look??? If this look were invented today, I would think he’s mocking trans people. But this was the mid 80s. I never in my life heard the term “trans” until maybe 2010. So in 1985, they weren’t a focal point of society. If they existed at all they were very rare. Not well known enough for an anti trans image to make sense in 1985.
So, what is he supposed to be with this look? A caveman??? A manniquinn??? I have no idea what I’m he’s going for here.
What about Ice Ice Baby?

12·8 days agoI just read that Mandani got an email that a citizen needed a pothole fixed on the road they lived on.
Same day filled.
In a city that has roughly 15 million people. One citizen. One pothole. One email. Filled SAME DAY. For context, the state of Ohio has about 11 million citizens.
If I were to write that same letter to a Cleveland mayor, that pothole most likely would never get fixed. My dad has lived in the same house since 1973. His house is at the center of a T intersection. Meaning the road ends, and you need to turn left or right. If you drive straight instead, you’re driving onto his lawn.
In the 70s/80s/90s he had a guardrail. If you drive straight, you crash. Then in 1998 they had to dig up some pipe and do some work down there. They removed the guardrail because they needed more space. They didn’t replace it.
Despite hundreds of calls over the years, to this day that guardrail is not replaced. 1998-2026. No action through multiple mayors, including Frank Jackson who served 17 years while doing absolutely nothing. Seriously, when I think what was Obamas contribution, I say medicare. With Clinton I think the telecommunications act of 1996. With Frank Jackson, I could be convinced he just stayed in his room and played Nintendo all day every day for 17 years.
But Mamdani replaces 1 pothole from 1 email, same day.
I’m not sure words can fully capture the amazement, and dumbfounding I feel when I think of that.
My solution is much more simple. I just never go outside.

11·16 days agoI’m going to start dressing up like a dog. And you’ll know it’s just a middle aged guy. Standing in a dog costume. Outside your window. For no reason.
You’ll know all of that is true. But I’m still going to stand there. Still going to distract you. And eventually you’re going to come over and question me. That’s when I’m going to jump on top of you, and start licking your face, and humping your leg.
You’ll be disgusted. You’ll try to file a police report. You’ll be insistent that this guy just won’t leave you alone. But everyone else except you will not see a man in a dog costume. They’ll see a dog. They’ll wonder why you’re being an asshole to this friendly dog. Then your girlfriend will be like “What is WRONG with you??? I’m going to bring the dog to my apartment for the night. I don’t think he should be around you right now…”
And that’s when I turn to you, and say “Yeah man. I’m going home with your girl. Gonna sleep in her bed while you’re away. Hump a little leg, if ya know what I’m saying!!! Ha ha ha!”
You’ll point and say “SEE?? DID ANY OF YOU HEAR THAT??? HE’S TRYING TO STEAL YOU FROM ME!!!” and your girl will be like “What’s gotten into you??? I think it may be time for therapy…”
It’s at that moment you look and see a small frog on the grass. And you say “Oh, and I’m sure YOU are going to start singing and dancing now???” to which the frog replies “…what?”
Well, no…you did. It’s BECAUSE she’s female that means you called her a bitch.
In case you still don’t get what I’m saying, a female dog, is by definition, a bitch.
…did you just call her a bitch?
I like this. Thr George Costanza defense.
“Ya know? I gotta plead ignorance on this one. If I’d have known that this sort of thing was frowned upon, well…certainly nobody told me.”
Why is your tuna canned, instead of swimming in the sea?
The brown paper bag is so nobody knows that you’re drinking alcohol.
That could be ANYTHING you’re drinking from a brown paper bag. You could be drinking arizona iced tea. You could be drinking coke. You could be drinking malt liquor…I mean no, not that. It was just…uhhhh…something else.
Yeah. You totally bought it. Nobody knows I’m standing outside this corner store, having not bathed in months, drinking malt liquor from a baggie.
See? The brown paper bag WORKS!
I like the idea that corn dogs came first. Then some picky eater was like “I don’t want the corn, just the dog.” And so some county fair food worker had to peel the hot corn batter off the corn dog.
And there happened to be a pervert watching, who said “Oh, look at that! A corn dog without the corn! Showing it’s skin like it’s naked!!! Oh, that is a hot dog if I’ve ever seen one! Which I haven’t, because this is the first time someone’s ever stripped a corndog…”
And so it was! A naked corn dog was now known as a hot dog.
Next time…you gotta say “PEW PEW PEW!!!” and then start laughing.

2·20 days agoI remember when I first got here, there’s ALWAYS the innitial shock of “what IS this place???”
Once I figured out what this place was, I asked what I thought was an obvious queation.
“If people can interact with the same communities from different instances, wouldn’t it be easy to just make a new account on a new instance? The name might be the same, but the instance is different, so it’s a different account. And since anyone can host an instance, what’s not to prevent someone from hosting hundreds or thousands of instances with the explicit intent on being malicious?”
When I asked that two years ago, I was told by several members that would never be an issue, since instance owners can defederate with instances.
Which I don’t think solves the problem. It seems to me in a cat and mouse game here it’s not the admins who hold the advantage. Seems like the troublemakers hold the advantage.
Because everything the admins have is reactionary. They can only ban after the troublemakers cause trouble. But then they’re back in 10 seconds.
The admins aren’t paid. The mods aren’t paid. It seems to me if troublemakers wanted to shut everything down they would do it with a coordinated attack. Having thoussnds if not millions of bots all at once overrun the human mods.
Eventually the mods and admins would have no choice but to shut down. Too little resources to keep up with the work of running a popular instance.
And thats kind of what happened with lemm.ee. Not trolls per se, but a lack of resources. They ran out of money and resources to host an instance, and that’s without the traffic of overwhelming trolls.
Yet when I said this, I was told I was wrong. Yet here we are. Now you have 1 troll who manually makes account and is banned. Makes account, gets banned. Makes account, banned again.
Thats ONE troll, who honestly seems like he’s doing it for his own amusement rather than malicious intent.
What happens when there’s a much larger concentrated troll attack?

44·22 days agoThis reminds me of the time my niece was 2 years old, and in a resteraunt she started standing on the booth seat, instead of sitting.
So my brother in law (her dad) asked her to sit. And she didn’t want to sit. So my BIL said “Look at everybody. Mommy’s sitting. Daddy’s sitting. Uncle is sitting. Nana is sitting. Everybody is sitting, and we’d like you to sit too! Can’t eat food like that if you’re standing!”
And then she sat down.
That was 10 years ago, and it stood out because if that were me at age 2, my dad would have just yelled and me, picked me up, and dropped me hard on my ass until I stopped getting up.
It was one of those “so THIS is what good parenting looks like…” moments.

Oh,ok. Thats fine. I was getting concerned he was like 8. I was gonna be like “FBI? Yes, this post right here.”
