There are cool fictional bad guys and annoying fictional bad guys like prince Joffrey (GoT), king Einon (Dragonheart), Dolores Umbridge (Harry Potter), Winn Adami (DS9).

I thought he hated Neville because who the chosen one was prophecy described either Harry or Neville, and Voldemort went after Harry, sealing who the prophecy was and sealing Harry’s mother’s fate, making Snape hate him because Neville’s parents could have died instead of a woman that would have never gotten with his shit ass.

Idk I think Malfoy gets it rough, kid was basically raised in and surrounded by a cult 24/7 with the threat of being ostracized by his family, friends and basically everyone he’d ever known if he put a foot out of line. I agree. I interpret it as a form of rebellion against the throes of perdition and fighting demons that plague the human condition like greed, anger, etc. The mark makes him aware of the affliction that some men carry.
