I’m not stuck in time. I’ve embraced dependability.
Where’s your 25 year old leather belt that has wear marks near every hole? Documenting your progression into middle age like tree rings.
No 20 year old belt. But I do have a set of 20 year old suspenders or galluses if you prefer. I wear suspenders because I have a very large surgical scar from a ruptured appendix years ago. Belt are very irritating to wear.
What the fuck? Who’s been taking pictures of my stuff?
I drive an older model manual transmission acura and use a 1980s style programmable thermostat with no smart features or connectivity. Use Debian stable with KDE. Checks out
Dude, that GE clock is the best, that watch is also solid af. Plus look at all those nice old receivers, I bet they sound great.
Also what’s the hate on the tire gauge? Does another kind exist other than a slide stick? Does another fancier kind even need to exist?
Stick pressure gauges are bad.
Bourdon pressure gauges are the only pressure gauge to get. (Not bourdon brand but one that uses what is known as a bourdon tube).
They are analogue AND reliable over the long term.

Gonna have to check these out. Unfortunately for my wife, now I have a reason to go to the hardware store lol
They exist with a round dial as well. Personally I don’t measure my tire pressure, ever. My car will tell me if one is low, and I’d go to a gas station to fill them to spec. Although lately I got a little compressor which goes in the cigarette lighter, which just lets you enter the desired pressure. I use that for the car, bikes, footballs and whatever else needs to be pumped to a given pressure.
How am I supposed to check tire pressure without a pressure gauge? My manual transmission is reliable and so is my alarm clock.
I feel targeted by this. Also how did you get into my house?
I always thought Debian stable was basically just for the ISS
It’s missing daily medication for old age related illnesses and glasses.
I’m in this picture based on vibes, but don’t possess the goods listed there.
Yep. I need my computer to work so I can use it to make interesting stuff. I’m completely uninterested on the computer itself.
AFAIK, there’s currently 1 option of OS that works.
Wow, I actually have the exact same radio alarm clock as the one pictured in the top right.
I used to have basically that thermostat. Slightly different model. I “upgraded” because the “smart” ones were supposed to save money. Saw my bills go up right away. Regretted the Nest Thermostat almost immediately.
And that wallet is in better condition than mine right now. Fuck it, I’ll take everything in that photo, but swap out the manual for an automatic.
Oh my. My one daughter just published 2 research papers on household thermostats. And according to her long term testing, Nest is one to definitely avoid.
If she’s willing to share, I would love to read those papers.
I can ask. I think she has presented them at a symposium this month. I think they might be in print next month.
I also ditched my “dumb” thermostats but went the DIY route. I put at least one temp sensor in each room/zone. Then switched out the actual thermostats with hard-wired Shelly relays from ameridroid. Everything is in a Zigbee network governed by “Better Thermostat” in Home Assistant.
A bit more work, yes, but everything stays local, I have all heating and cooling in one dashboard customized to my preferences, and the system is modular and extendable - next will be further automation with open door and window sensors + better presence detection.
The “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” starter pack
No Nokia 3310?
I tick most of these boxes and still have a rotary landline phone in service.
That’s the point: stable
