Social media is making western societies dumb and lazy. I realised this even more when I read that TikTok was developed for the westerners, despite it being a chinese product. I thought it had been deveoped in China for the Chinese and it later spilled into the west.

Social media and AI are valuble tools and can help improve society. Federated systems like Lemmy are an example. But humans are driven by profit and convienence so it’s inevitable that the worse of social media ans AI make the headlines. Profit and convienence: these are the root causes that will drive humanity to extinction.

Maybe, but the starting point is not the same. Now, information travels superfast compared to centuries ago. Governments could keep up, … now they lag behind and don’t keep up.

But what does this really mean? School is about developing critical thinking, regardless of whether you know every Shakespear madterpiece or whether you know how to resolve second order differetial equations. Cinese education surpassed western education years ago and they are now picking the fruits of that effort.

Yet, i think the real tragedy of western schooking and young people is social media. Its making our kids dumb any the are loosing their critical ability, ability to ask questions and find answers, ability to be curious. Yes, the western world is on a downward trend but it doesn’t have to be the end.

What really helps with such decisions is your use model and threat model. Then a nice matrix that compares them all. Haven’t come across a good updated comparison in a while. Would be good to see a shared link here.

I’ve been wanting to get more into this nitrokey business but haven’t done my research. Are you using it for all your day to day authentication? Can it be used for websites? Logging onto laptops, etc?

One thing that i have noticed is that the website gives me a sense of mediocrity compare to dell which is a lot more slick.

of course they are manufactured globally. but in theory designed in US (for DELL) and China (for Lenovo). So in theory, QA and quality standards are way better specified in US than they are in China? Although, if Thinkpads are still comparable to their IBM equivalents in terms of quality, then the above theory is not true. China is moving ahead fast and everyone else is falling behind.

This is a bit interesting. Isn’t Lenovo a Cinese company who bought IBM hardware production or something like that. So Lenovo has outpaced Dell then? I always had a slim view of Lenovo … and stuck with Dell because american superior quality …

I’m dead scared of even thinking of using my corporate phone or laptop for personal use. I think i’ve never done a personal search or sent a personal email or even made a personal call using company devices. I kown they are logging every single thing i do because they’ve even told us in our annual cybersecurity training. Just run two seperate and parallel lives ;-)
