Not always the defining factor (see East Germany) but it definitely amplifies the existing class hatred

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Does anyone else feel irritated when deeply religious people connect everything with god?
4·21 days agoI especially feel irritated when they credit god over actual people that made something happen, like thanking god over a surgeon that just saved your life
Keep the creep glasses where they belong, in the bottom of a garbage can
Not at all, if anything it’s the least frustrating one. Every defeat gives you something to learn from, whether it was a huge blunder you made or just your general strategy and missed opportunities. It was all a direct result of your playing against your opponents playing, it’s probably the most balanced game ever made which makes sense since it’s been played for literally centuries.
Other games like League of Legends, or TCGs like Magic or Riftbound for example, are unbelievably more frustrating. In online MOBAs you can just get matched with a team diff you can do absolutely nothing about and just have to wait until defeat losing your time in the process. And in said TCGs skill does play a role but it also has a lot to do with being lucky with your draws, having enough cards in your deck which cost money, or having spent enough time before the game to learn about all the possible cards an opponent could have or all the good combos you can make with your own cards, turning the game from a match of skill to a match of skill, luck, time and money all together.

3·27 days agoProbably the fact that their little Iran adventure was a complete failure I guess, had to turn their gaze elsewhere for an easier win
I hope they eat dirt just like they did with the Bay of Pigs invasion and Cuba manages to become energy sovereign before it breaks

World News@lemmy.ml•As the US starves it of oil, Cuba is pulling off one of the fastest solar revolutions on the planet — with China’s help
112·28 days agoThe world doesn’t revolve around the sex crimes of your leaders that you choose to do nothing about.
Cuba is being starved because of a decade long embargo the US is inflicting on it in order to bring about regime change and be able to exploit their local resources again as they used to before the revolution.
True for some of them but many of them are very based and do a lot more irl stuff.
Socialist orgs definitely have things to learn from them in terms of mutual aid for example, I find that very lacking in these circles while anarchists take it very seriously
Not there yet at my company, but management is starting to shove AI down the throats of the more senior engineers at first. I’ve definitely heard of companies where they strictly push for as much AI as possible which is just completely self destructive and delusional.
It sucks that we have to use this crap even if we don’t want it or need it just because the suits see the line go up (even if the line is completely made up of garbage code that will explode one day), but that doesn’t mean you should quit the field. There’s still plenty work to be done, and that will probably go upwards as the symptoms of reckless AI usage start showing up.
The work is worse by all means, you are encouraged or forced to work in a way that strips all enjoyment away, you are forced to nitpick code made by others that you know vibe coded the entire thing, and fixing tons of stupid as hell bugs that a human would probably not make. But still, it takes an actual engineer that knows what they’re doing to be able to clean up that mess and do some actual engineering.
What I fear the most is what comes after the pre-AI senior engineers start leaving or going to retirement, and you’re left with engineers who finished their degrees without ever truly diving into details like one would before AI, starting jobs without learning properly and picking up all the domain knowledge.
A lot of things make me dread the future, but I can only change the here and now.
Doing everything I can with as little AI as possible or none at all, being creative and holding on to my humanity despite the outside pressure to become dependent on this bullshit, it keeps me sane that at least I’m not letting myself be ruined by offloading my skills and thinking to a machine that can only fake them.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How likely is it that there's an animal on earth that's smarter than human beings in key areas?
8·1 month agoMathematics is a terrible baseline for intelligence since it has so many prerequisites for it to exist at the most basic level.
We very often misunderstand the reason of our success as a species to be exclusively because of our unique intelligence alone, when it’s really the special combination we have that has allowed that intelligence to be useful.
Being really good at communicating and creating languages for example, being a land based species, having fingers that we can use with a lot of ease into creating tools, being worse predators physically which gives a material reason for us to create those tools initially, intelligence alone would be a small thing without them.
As others have said, scientists believe that several species are even more intelligent than humans, but maybe they never needed our way of life and natural selection never led them to it because they were just fine as they were.
I could see people buying this lol

World News@lemmy.ml•Zelenskyy issued a decree allowing a parade in Moscow on May 9, 2026 on humanitarian grounds discussed with the US. During the event, Red Square is excluded from Ukrainian weapons targeting
162·1 month agoIt’s a military parade because fascism wasn’t won in the “marketplace of ideas” as liberals proclaim, but with tanks and guns. Why is it dishonest to say that the event is full of civilians celebrating this historical event? It’s one of the most relevant historical events to be celebrating because we will very soon need another one against today’s fascists that have taken over everything and everywhere.

3·1 month agoInteresting, I wonder how unique the fingerprinting is though, they don’t give you any specific stats.
Is it really possible to identify me with like 1/100 precision for example, if you don’t have my real IP, real country, no trackers, and all you have is a list of fonts, my graphics card, and the browser info?

DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•Any android devs: Please add your support for a developer strike on the play store should DeveloperID pass.
16·1 month agoIt’s a really good idea, if anything can truly make Google think twice about implementing this, it’s them losing apps from their store that the community loves and might jump ship to F-Droid in order to install.
It’s obvious that they don’t give a damn about software distribution freedom, it’s specifically what they want to kill by doing this, so words alone will never be enough.
I hope this gains traction soon
