First of all, no, it isn’t. Like, textually isn’t.
Second, situation in post-war USSR is vastly different from the modern western countries. The problem isn’t lack of housing, it’s using housing as commodities. If you can create a system that can build millions of shitty crumbling concrete gravestones, you’d better use fraction of this system’s power to make laws that prevent commodification of housing, so it becomes affordable, and this will be the better outcome. And that’s also one of those good socialist ideas actually.
But again, we’re not talking about the original point anymore.

The whole premise of the meme is that we should be in awe how amazing commyblocks are, and how greatly they survive even to this days.
The reality, that nobody disagrees with, is that post-war USSR very quickly built a bunch of cheap housing that was planned to be gradually replaced by a more nicely built ones, and a lot of them weren’t. This isn’t controversial, and not worth the meme. So the meme stretches this to mean something else.

Believe you me, they are used today not by choice. You need to stretch the definition of inhabitable significantly to include 80 years old mass construction buildings in it. Unless those Theseus shipped over the decades, but even then. Buildings from ancient Rome still standing today, it’s really not that big of a bragging rights to have some of the homes be technically upright after 80 years.
Ironically, the only buildings from post-war era that survived in my hometown are only those that were built by Germans as part of the reparations. Make of that what you will.

It’s so incredibly clear when someone talks about soviet housing without setting a foor in one. You can say a lot about those, but saying the word quality about them will be actually a crime. For example, mine had a hole between the panels big enough, you could put your hand out and grab loose concrete from the wall. It was 4th floor. My mom had to work 15 years without changing jobs to be able to get one.

  • It’s true for every type of societal issue. Let’s just assume that for every problem, number one thing that we need to do is eat the rich hold the powerful accountable. But while we figure out how to do that, let’s at least not ignore the actual smaller problem that we’re dealing with.
A house is on fire because of poor regulations and corruption, poor regulations and corruption needs to be dealt with for sure. A house is on fire though, so it’s also important to deal with.

  • I don’t know if they can afford gatekeep it on consoles for that long. Previously, I knew I would be buying it regardless, now I envision the internet full of posts how buggy it is and how nonsensical quests are and how sloppy it feels, and after a year of that I would avoid it even when it comes to pc. They might want to ride the hype all the way and try to push it on pc before it sauers the grapes.
It could be not true if the game is good, but come on, we all know that wouldn’t happen.

  • There are no main characters in Rimworld, but I now very, very worry for my organs. The only grace is, I play my colonies as nicely to everyone is possible, so I just hope I’m one of those nice successful ones, that is friendly to everyone, and is swimming in silver selling beer, lavish meals, and drugs to everyone around. And not one of the hundreds died of a mad squirrel scratch in the first quadrum

  • Well, it doesn’t in the only source of knowledge we have: the game Portal. I don’t know enough about gravitational forces to have a coherent theory on it, gravitational waves moving through space-time is a bit beyound my real understanding. But in the game if you put a portal on a ceiling, it doesn’t “suck” you until you’re throuth it, so there it isolates gravity somehow.

  • Nobody ever started a war in the name of stamp collecting. Nobody ever raped a kid and used “but I’m a leader of the local board game club therefore I shouldn’t be punished” as an excuse. Nobody assaulted a person because their local woodworking club disagrees whom that person should and shouldn’t love.
Nobody ever did any of that in the name of atheism either. Because there is no sacred book of atheism that says that we should let 13 years old rape victim die in childbirth because the atheist doctrine doesn’t believe in bodily autonomy.
If your thing eagerly provides easy and available excuse to do the atrocity your thing is bad and shouldn’t exist. But to reiterate the point that you keep glossing over, your thing provides excuse, justification, motivation, direct orders, all of it, the whole package.

  • It’s very convenient if for every example of religiously motivated atrocities you can just say “Nuh-huh, when they say ‘I do an atrocity in the name of my religion because my religion says that I should’ they actually secretly do it for some other unrelated reason”.
But even in this version of reality you propose, when nobody was ever motivated by religion to do anything bad, when someone says “let’s go kill all the heretics and steal their shit because our god says so”, killing the heretics still comes first, and it wouldn’t be as effective as “let’s go kill our neighbors and steal their shit because I want their shit”. If religion gives an excuse instead of justification, it’s still just as bad.
But I reiterate that we don’t live in your magical reality, and religion is both motivation and justification for a lot of shit.
